Il primo 33 giri in vinile che ho comprato è stato Selling England by the Pound dei Genesis, avevo 15 anni. Scopro per caso che il disco italiano, diverso da tutte le altre versioni pubblicate nel mondo perchè conteneva le traduzioni dei testi fatte da Armando Gallo, è oggi ambito pezzo da collezione. Le traduzioni sono accuratissime perchè, oltre ad aver inserito note dettagliate che spiegano i numerosi giochi di parole nascosti nei testi originali, l’autore si è avvalso dell’assistenza di Peter Gabriel. Il disco contiene alcuni dei pezzi epici del gruppo inglese, ma qui riporto il testo di uno di quelli meno apprezzati, uno dei primi cantati da Phil Collins. E’ forse uno dei brani del disco meno incisivi musicalmente, ma a me piaceva perché credevo raccontasse una storia d’amore… poi ho scoperto che, invece, parla della fine di un amore e della volontà di farcela da parte di chi è stato lasciato. Lo dedico a un amico che non avrà bisogno delle traduzioni di Armando Gallo.
